Establishment
The institute was established between Al-Azhar University in Cairo and representatives of the Muslim Communities of Johannesburg. Al-Azhar Institute Johannesburg was signed in November 1998 in the Bosmont Mosque by Imaams, Educationists, community members, and other brethren representing Muslim communities of Johannesburg. The school is registered with the Gauteng Department Of Education. it is divided into four distinct educational phases. It consists of Grade R, Foundation phase (Grade 1-3). intermediate (grade 4-6), Senior Phase(Grade 7-9) and FET Phase (Grade 10-12).
OUR SCHOOL MOTTO
The first word that the Angel Gabriel asked Prophet Mohammed to utter was “Read”. This word and Therefore, our school motto encompasses all the educational, social economic, and daily needs we wish to instill in our children.
Mission Statement
As a school committed to quality education, we seek.
- To provide quality education within the framework and with full adherence to the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa and to do without discrimination about race, creed, and gender.
- To provide Learners with the benefit of Islamic and secular education where the latter will be strictly according to the syllabus of the educational authorities of the Republic of South Africa.
- To liaise and cooperate with other organizations with similar aims and objectives.

- To recognize that education, both secular and religious is a fundamental human right and that will assist our children in leading a meaningful and fruitful life that will be beneficial to themselves and their fellow human beings.
